Today was Orso’s first time wearing a harness during his 2nd protection sports class with Ludovic Teurbane. We kept the training fun and focused on working on playing tug and getting him accustomed to the harness and it went quite well. It needs to be adjusted to fit him better, but overall it’s a well-made, sturdy harness. Below is a link to video footage from today’s class, enjoy! A couple of months ago, Orso was awarded the 2011 SACCI Puppy Dog of the Year award! Annually, the SACCI (Society in America for Cane Corso Italiano) awards the Top Puppy Dog of the Year to the puppy who defeats the most Cane Corsos by 12 months of age. I am very excited that Orso was given this honor! This is the plaque that was made for him! Thank you, SACCI!  Orso loves to be touching me when he sleeps with me. He doesn’t care if it’s with his paw, an ear, his nose, WHATEVER, as long as he is touching me somehow, LOL. My Buckethead is such an angel! Today was Orso’s first protection sports class with Ludovic Teurbane and it went great! Everyone in class loved Orso’s disposition! We worked a little on getting Orso to bark to alert, since Orso has always been more of the silent type, LOL. He caught on immediately and gave us lots of barking! He also worked nicely on the bite-work using a tug. I already ordered Orso his harness and appropriate training gear since I am not too happy about the flat collar he is using. This is Karma’s very first formal evaluation for protection sports at 13 months of age. She is a firecracker, even in the pouring rain! I knew what to expect because Brian Martin & Jordan Martin were kind enough to do Volhard Puppy Aptitude Testing on her when she was 49 days old. She has matured into exactly how she tested. I was very pleased with her evaluation. She shows a lot of potential. Now it’s time to build some confidence, make it more about fun prey drive and less about defense/aggression. Her evaluation was short and sweet. No need to push her. She didn’t really show any prey drive or interest, but did do some barking. I am not sure if she naturally doesn’t have much drive or if it’s a function of never really learning how to play tug. Either way, she needs time to learn how to play, develop confidence and show interest and drive. Could be that she’s more of a couch girl with some obedience showing here and there, LOL. He did so awesome. I love my Buckethead! I am so proud of him! Ludovic Teurbane, his trainer, was very impressed with him and feels that he has the potential to take on any type of protection sport out there! When speaking of Orso, he stated, “I really like Orso, he will bite the sleeve soon, very confident, powerful and friendly. Love that Cane Corso!” Yay, Buckethead! Enjoy! Now that Orso, Cleo & Karma are all AKC Grand Champions, it’s time for Team Costa Bel to focus on activities that will engage some doggie brain cells. No more standing around looking pretty, it’s time to WORK! Orso already has a head start since he earned his AKC Rally Novice Obedience title last year. However, Cleo & Karma are in desperate need of some good obedience training! While going through the process of picking someone with whom I want to work with on obedience training in my new neighborhood, I realized that if I want to pursue any kind of protection sport training with them, I should probably be working with an obedience trainer who can also help with the protection sports. This is how I met Ludovic Teurbane of Dog Connection. Following an introduction to Ludovic by my friend, Daniel de la Rosa, owner of Petropolis, Ludovic and I spoke on the phone and agreed to have him come to the house to meet Orso, Cleo & Karma for a formal evaluation. The next 3 posts will have links to each dog’s evaluation, which was filmed to share with our cyber-groupies! I am excited to share this new journey with you! Enjoy!
