FIRST PHONE CALL WITH BREEDER – 05.29.2009

5/29/2009

We had our first call with Diane Connors, which went very well!  We are figuring out when we can head out to Dade City to meet her and her four-legged family!  She has a few litters planned, but we are looking for a male, show quality blue pup, so it may be a challenge to bring home our boy any time soon.

DECIDING ON A BREEDER – 05.28.2009

5/28/2009

Several months ago, we decided that we wanted to bring home a Cane Corso puppy.  We are strong believers in rescuing homeless pets, but wanted to choose our next puppy’s temperament and genetics, which is something one cannot do with rescued pets.  We strongly encourage people to consider pet adoption as the first option, but in this case we had solid reasons to go with a breeder.  We have rescued many dogs over the last decade and currently have two rescues, Luna & Mouse.  Luna, born November 2005, is a female red merle Catahoula Leopard Dog who we rescued as a puppy after her momma became a Hurricane Katrina refugee.  Mouse, also born November 2005, is a male fawn Doberman Pinscher who we rescued as a puppy from Prayers N Paws Doberman Rescue in North Carolina.  Below are some photos of them.  Before them, we had many other rescues – a Great Dane named Lucas, a Pit Bull named Kaila, a Neopolitan Mastiff named Nala, just to mention a few.  I also grew up with Rottweilers and German Shepherds, some of which were competitive working dogs with me as their handler.  I have ridden horses competitively since I was old enough to walk, specifically hunters and jumpers, which has given me an immense amount of knowledge with regard to working with large, dominant animals effectively.  We wanted a puppy that we could work with as a competitive working & confirmation dog, which meant that we needed to be able to predict his temperament according to a breed standard, thus motivating us to work with a reputable and respectable breeder for our Cane Corso puppy.

After months of researching breeders, we decided we wanted a puppy from Mar e Sol Cane Corsos in Dade City, Florida, so we submitted an online application today.  Diane Connors, the owner of the kennel, immediately wrote back with a positive response:

“Hi Yvonne,

Thank-you so much for your interest in one of my puppies and for taking the time to complete my puppy application so thoroughly.  It seems as if you do have extensive experience with several breeds of dogs and quite capable of properly raising a large, dominant breed.

I would love the opportunity to speak with you as I prefer phone conversations over email (so impersonal).  I have young puppies right now so spend most of my day here at the house taking care of and entertaining them.  Please feel free to contact me at your convenience at (XXX) XXX-XXXX.

Thanks Again!
Hope to hear from you soon, Diane”

We are now one step closer to our new family member!
