Orso's fantabulous vet, Dr. Robert Pane of South Kendall Animal Clinic, is actively involved in a great organization called the South Florida Veterinary Foundation (SFVF). According to their website, the SFVF’s mission is to increase the access of quality veterinary care, promote responsible pet ownership, and increase awareness of the importance of the human-animal bond in our community. The SFVF is comprised of veterinarians in South Florida, such as Dr. Pane, who generously donate their time and energy to increase awareness and promote education about animal care in our community. The funds raised by the foundation benefit multiple causes – from donating to local rescue groups to running a free spay/neuter program and free vet care clinics for the pets belonging to low income families and the homeless.
Dee Hoult of Applause Your Paws is also a part of this organization’s team and has helped put together an event on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the University of Miami’s Whitten Learning Center, Room 110, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. This FREE LECTURE will feature Drs. Larry Bernstein and Robert Prosek, speaking on topics in holistic veterinary medicine and veterinary cardiology. If you plan to attend, don’t forget to RSVP! Orso took a nice vacation from everything for a couple of weeks. He lounged on the sofa, he lounged on his day bed, he lounged just about anywhere where he fit. Last Thursday night, we went back to group conformation classes to get Orso back into his conformation state of mind for the upcoming Perry shows. Since then, we’ve been working on his trot and his stack. He’s also back in the water and loving it. Today we spent about 30 minutes playing fetch in the lake and then moved things into the patio to play in the pool. We always like to get him in the pool after swimming in the lake for a few reasons, but primarily so that he never forgets how to get OUT of the pool if he ever falls in. A Cane Corso is pretty clumsy in its teenage stage and Orso is no different! Thanks, Tia Yvette, for the cool underwater video camera! Below is a 2 minute video clip of Orso playing with me in the pool. Enjoy! We’ve rented a minivan just like the one we rented for the Lakeland shows, so Orso will be cruising in style to the Peach State! He’ll be just shy of his 10-month birthday, so he will be showing in the 9-12 month puppy class with his handler, Jessie Herzon of Chambray Labradors. We haven’t done any conformation preparation since the last shows in Fort Lauderdale, so we definitely have our work cut out for us. Vacation is over, big poppa!
According to the entries, there are 36 Corsi on Thursday, 46 on Friday and 47 on Saturday, so the turnout for this show is spectacular! The shows will be held all three days at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter, 401 Larry Walker Parkway, Perry, GA.
